How we did it

"They're cooking chicken in the basement of Delta?"
This was the question first posed by students, in the fall of 1990, after learning that Karen Kaffen and Ed Thorndike '89 planned to open a restaurant in the former eating club of Delta Tau Delta.
After several months of cleaning, renovating, and more cleaning jobs, Wes Wings opened for business February 6, 1991.
Our first lunch had Ed on the cash register, Karen on the grill assisted by students, John Krell '93 and Jessica Slade '93. An hour later, after the smoke cleared, Wes Wings was on its way!
Over the past 18 + years, thousands of students have come through our doors and worked behind our counter. From the small late night spot with couches, the pool table & "Cheers, The Simpson's and L.A. Law" on the wide screen, to the controlled chaos of today, Wes Wings has truly become a Wesleyan institution. If you're an alum passing through Middletown, or ever find yourself on campus...stop by for a while. We'll leave the fryer on.
